In-Person Saturdays Junior (ages 4-6) and Senior (ages 7-12) Workshop | 9:00 am to 4:00 pm | $85 per Full day(on sale now $70 for early registration)
In these difficult times and waves of COVID-19, lockdowns, and isolation, physical activities and activities, in general, are more than ever critical for children’s development. We are planning to use the opportunities given to the full potential to help your child in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, good mental and physical health and learn all at the same time. We want to create an environment that cherishes the joys of childhood and youth. We want to give our next generation meaningful skills, values, joys, and memories that will last lifelong.
Saturday's workshop is an enriching experience for children of all ages. It provides the right mix of fun and new challenges so that your child will grow and learn while enjoying the magic of an active lifestyle. We provide our participants the perfect combinations of physical and academic activities.
Our program is delivered in partnership with WISS ACADEMY, one of the educational institution leaders in the Waterloo Region. Their first-class teachers and excellent outdoor and indoor facilities make a difference to our programs. We will keep your kids active and learning every weekend.
Our curriculum is part inspiration of the life experience of our instructors in the Tinkering Studio / Exploratorium Museum in California. They provided a well-designed lesson materials that we customized and enriched with our local experience.
How will we handle participants of different ages in our workshop?
We split our children into different groups by age. We have different curriculum and activities divided per academic level as follows: JK-G1/2 G2-G4 and G5-6. We evaluate case-by-case to find a more appropriate level for your child when the age does not correspond to the academic level. The final purpose is to make sure everyone is enjoying the workshop and the activities they are doing.
Join us and experience the perfect fun mix of learning and fun atmosphere. Like no other in the region, our participants will explore outdoors and indoor activities in the most safe and creative environment. Our programs include:
• Engineering concepts
• Science Experiments
• Coding School with Artec Robo
• Hands-on Math
• Music and MultiSports
• Arts and Crafts
• Outdoor Exploring
• Eco School Technology
Participants will build a Marble Machine. This is a creative ball-run contraption, made from familiar materials, designed to send a rolling marble through tubes and funnels, across tracks and bumpers, and into a catch at the end.
Participants will build cardboard automata. Cardboard automata use levers, cams, cam followers, linkages, and other mechanisms to make unique personalized creations.
Circuit boards are designed to tinker with electricity using everyday objects and components. Batteries, lights, buzzers, motors, resistors, potentiometers, switches, are but a few of the types of electrical gizmos that can be hooked together with simple alligator clips.
Participants will build a scribbling machine, which is a motorized contraption that moves in unusual ways and leaves a mark to trace its path. It’s made from simple materials and demonstrates the erratic motion created by an offset motor.
During this activity, participants will construct a working and wearable circuit. You’ll experiment with a battery, conductive thread, conductive tape and an LED to learn how to connect a circuit, and then design a way for it to work on a wrist cuff, a badge, or any other wearable item.
Make simple or complex electrical circuits on a piece of paper! Copper tape and surface-mount LEDs allow you to turn a lly nctional circuit into a light-up greeting card, origami animals, or three-dimensional pop-up paper sculptures that have working lights in them.
Light Play lets you explore light, shadow, and motion using a variety of simple materials and light sources. Participants will work toward building kinetic light and shadow vignettes and eventually combine them into a collaborative installation.
Chain reaction is an intuitively simple concept, but one that allows for an incredibly complex and deep investigation into something we experience every day: the relationship between cause and effect. (TBD)
